The Qualcomm Stadium flooding was one of the major stories in the world of sports yesterday, as the field and parking lot were completely submerged following heavy rain storms.
But according to the latest reports from Fox Sports, the field is ready for action, and the Poinsettia Bowl matchup between the Navy Midshipmen and the San Diego State Aztecs will go on as planned.
Crews worked tirelessly through the night pumping some one and a half million gallons of water off the field, a feat the bowl’s executive director Bruce Binkowski called “an amazing accomplishment.”
“the field looks beautiful,” said Binkowski Thursday morning. “All the water is off. They’ve actually started to paint the sponsor logo at midfield. That tells you how things are progressing. They’re painting the field markings now. All the water is out. It’s a miracle.”
The parking lot is another issue, as a pretty significant portion of it is still under water, and the estimations are that only 11,000 of the 19,000 parking spots will be available.
The word from Holly Rowe on ESPN just now is that the field is in “excellent” condition, however, so it sounds like the game won’t be hindered by this mini-disaster.
